Motion Media Skills Showcase

This is my Motion Media Skills Showcase! I wanted to do a song, and I chose weathergirl by FLAVOR FOLEY. I made the frames, storyboard, and character showcase using Photoshop, I cut the audio with Capcut, and assembled the frames with After Effects! I had 30 hours to complete this project, and it was a really bumpy ride. My target audience is teens 13-18, young adults 19+, and people apart of the LGBTQ community or who consume LGBTQ stories.

At first, I thought I knew what I wanted to do. But, it turned out to be a bad case of visualizing animatics in your head. I did know what song to choose for the project! Working on my storyboard went smoothly, although I kind of forgot what even happened while making it.

When I started working on my frames, I realised 16 frames in that I could’ve just made a transparent solid in After Effects instead of merging a transparent layer on every frame.I later realised that it was fine because I exported every frame as a jpg. And then, an annoying voice called to me, “I’m After Effects and I decided to not play your audio!” No sound came out of my project (on my computer at school), and it was the worst thing on earth. I later worked on it at home on my laptop, nothing can get through me! When I got my feedback, a main issue was the frames switching rapidly. Marcos helped me with additional editing on my frames since I couldn’t hear my music! One thing I will work on is putting the principles of animation into my work. I didn’t do that in this project.

I wanted to keep track of what opacities I had everything at, so I made an image where I kept track of that. I put the font I used in there, as well as the colour I used!

I even thought to make an image to showcase my characters, although it isn’t that helpful at learning who they are. I’ve had them for…maybe 2 years. I don’t know, but Haru has gone through so many redesigns in those 2 years. Not a lot of their body is shown, mostly due to how they’re only viewed waist up in most frames.
