Platypus Exhibit Model

Project Topic

This is a project that I worked on in Computer Modeling for Business Professionals of America. For the project, my goal was to design a 3D model of an exhibit for two platypuses to live in at the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington D.C.

Brainstorming and Inspiration

For my brainstorming, I took inspiration from several different images of platypus exhibits. My main source of inspiration came from a gameplay video of a video game called “Planet-Zoo,” where the player was making an indoor platypus habitat. I’ve done some research about the platypus’s environment and habitat. I found out that they typically live in freshwater creeks and slow-moving rivers. This all shaped my idea and prepared me to make my blueprint.

Artist's Statement

There are several reasons as to why I decided to partake in this competition. For one, I used to barely take any extracurricular activities or join any competitions in the past. So, I decided to start getting out of my comfort zone. I realize that, whether I win or lose this competition, it will be a learning experience for me and will help me grow as a person. Another reason was that I used to love going to the zoo when I was little. Seeing all the wildlife up close filled my heart with joy. I carry many fond memories from my childhood, a time bundling with fun, simplicity, and sentiment.
