Mushu The Dragon
Prompt: “Year of the Dragon”
Create an illustration based on the prompt, Year of the Dragon. You can used mixed media as long as some part of the illustration was created using software. Be creative!
I took references from dragons of ancient Chinese myths and coloration references from Mushu, in Disney’s Mulan. I had a lot of fun working on this project and stepping out of my comfort zone to make it. I used Photoshop to make the sketch and Procreate to do all of the rendering.
The sword of the wilds
“April Awakening: Explore the Intersection of Nature and Imagination”
Prompt: Create a captivating visual representation that celebrates the beauty of nature and its connection to the human imagination. Let your imagination run wild as you weave a story that transports viewers to a realm where anything is possible.
I was inspired by Arthurian legend to create this illustration specifically the tale of the sword in the stone. The sword itself is my take on the Sword of Excaliber. The stone itself has swirls inspired by the triskelion, a symbol associated with Druidism. Like Merlin, Druids are often referenced as magic users in Arthurian legend. The colors of the sword are a nod to the colors of house Pendragon, the ruby in the hilt, and the gold color of the blade itself.
I enjoyed making this illustration because I am a huge fan of the Arthurian Legend.
