data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px\">This project demonstrates my current skills in digital media design. The target audience for this character was teens and young adults who enjoy art\/are very creative, and younger aspiring artists who may see their future selves in a wacky, colorful artist character. This project was completed over one week (approximately 30 hours). I used asymmetrical balance and colors that went well together in order to show my ability to use design principles in my works. I identified my target audience and created the design and personality with it in mind.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 19px\">One challenge I faced was figuring out how to make the 3\/4th perspectives for the gif and the dynamic poses for the main drawings. I overcame that by using a good amount of references, while refining 3\/4 view perspectives. In the end, the results were successful, and the dynamic poses looked great, in my opinion. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 19px\">Maintaining objectivity during extended work sessions was a challenge. I had been staring at it for too long, and thought it looked bad, despite the reassurance that most others liked the design when shown to them. Taking breaks helped me reassess the work with a fresh perspective, and I started to like it more when I came back from these breaks. This served as a reminder that my own work isn&#8217;t always gonna look good to me, and I will probably notice all the tiny details and mistakes that the majority of others wouldn&#8217;t notice, and that I just have to push through and complete the piece. I wanted it to have more of a personal meaning, so I chose to make it an anxiety PSA. I made it using my character, Coffi, and a character I made based off of September, Tembs.<\/p><p>\u00a0From the beginning, I knew I wanted it to look like the type of PSA you would see in school about 10 years ago. I already had a general idea down, so I did the research needed, got the resources, and typed up the script.\u00a0<\/p><p>When I was finished writing the script, I started sketching out the storyboard, and recorded my lines. when sketching the storyboard, I failed to realize how long it would take, and started falling behind. I used Photoshop to draw out the frames, and After Effects to animate them. while drawing out the frames, at some point in the process we lost internet in the middle of the day, and both After Effects and Photoshop crashed while I was at lunch, before I had saved. Luckily, I happened to have already exported the frames that were lost, and I was able to just import them back into Photoshop and after effects to finish animating, and all that was left is to get Tembs&#8217; voice lines and line them up into the animation.<\/p><p>In the end, I had a result I was happy with, and completed it (mostly) on time. I got Toon Boom Harmony open and I started animating. I started by just drawing the characters, different mouths for lip syncing, and the rigs. For the first scene with Ash running, I grabbed the already made rig from my previous WalkTalkRun animation, as well as the background from it. once i had every character, pose, and drawing substitution that i needed drawn, i started drawing the backgrounds. for the dark blue background, I took a lot of inspiration from the classic animation memes found all over youtube. for the parts with Ash in actual forest scenes, I wanted to make it look eerie and unsettling, so I gave it a color palette with a lot of really dark browns and greens, with accents of dark blue.<\/p><p>once i got all the characters and backgrounds drawn, i started to work on the actual animation. I started simple, with just adding the correct timing to correspond with the music playing in the background, then adding keyframes to get the different camera moves animated, especially for the simpler scenes with more flat animation. after that, i started to animate the rigged cut-out from the beginning scene, making it appear as if he&#8217;s speeding through the forest. once i had finished that, i went to the scenes with Ash shapeshifring back and forth between his true form and pretending to be Coffi, and animated the shapeshifting using the drawing substitutions made earlier on in the correct timing. i did the same thing with different drawing substitutions made to animate Ash&#8217;s head tilt\/ear fold scene with the correct timing. for the mirror scene, all I had to do at this point was change the drawing substitution for the eyes to go from the sad eyes to the echausted eyes when he says the word &#8220;ugh&#8221;. next, i added the star transition to each of the scenes that keep the same background but have different positioning in the scene,\u00a0 in order to make the animation look more seamless. then, i animated Ash grabbing the unnamed pig characters phone and dropping it.\u00a0<\/p><p>After finishing all of the major animation, I had to animate the lip syncing. one of the main challenges of this part was the fact that I couldnt use the already recorded song in the animation, due to the fact that that instrumentals in the background prevent Toon Boom Harmony&#8217;s auto lip sync feature from working properly. I ended up finding a solution by simply recording myself singing the song with around the same tone and timing as the real thing, and seperating the lyrics into different sound layers in Toon Boom so that it wouldn&#8217;t automatically animate the lip syncing too far out into the timeline.
