Sonya Hollands<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sonya Hollands is the Head Communications Specialist in the Department of Security Operations. Existing in 2026 in the universe of present day Resident Evil, she has a pretty tumultuous backstory herself. One that’s full of hefty history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her initial plan wasn’t always to work for the DSO, but it was a passion that she developed during her childhood. She graduated top of her class in the communications front, which landed her a temporary spot in the FBI until the DSO had decided to scoop her up. From there, she worked quickly up the food chain and landed herself a position as the Head Communications Specialist at just 22 years old. Her colleagues often refer to her as “the best this field has ever seen” on several different occasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her Early Story<\/em><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Her life was relatively normal from the beginning, born to Mitsuki and Javi Hollands on January 23rd, 2004 in Denver, Colorado. Her childhood is one that’s hard to recollect, for reasons that shaped her as a person and left her changed forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her mother Mitsuki (whose maiden name Sonya can’t remember) was a Japanese exchange student who had moved to Colorado for the sake of her college studies. While there, she met Sonya’s father, Javi Hollands, a Spanish-American student who had no necessary long-term goals at the time. Following graduation, the two of them got married, with Sonya being born shortly afterward. By this time, Javi had also decided to enlist into the National Guard due to difficulty with finding work outright with his college degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was gone for stationed missions on a semi-regular basis, with the most notable one being the Raccoon City monitoring and clean-up missions that begun in 2005 following the 1998 bombing carried out as an outbreak containment measure. However, his frequent exposure to the city’s change atmosphere would take a toll. Once he was sent to perform clean-up and monitor missions, no one had realized that airborne exposure contamination was a possibility and that it could take a serious negative toll on the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the time Sonya was four years old, she was living peacefully with her mother and father in a comfortable suburban situation. A true white picket fence lifestyle, with the exception of her father leaving for stationed missions on a semi-regular basis. Life was decent for a while, at least until the Raccoon City missions started to have their ways with Javi. The early signs included declines in respiratory health, but as time progressed and two years passed, his physical and mental state had heavily deteriorated. Bruising of the skin, blackening of the veins, dark circling around the eyes. It was enough to make him terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Sonya was six years old, her life had permanently changed forever. Her fathers exposure had hit a climax, and the overall state of his health had hit a wall. It’s an evening that Sonya can’t really recall, considering her brain has put heavy censorship for the sake of sanity… but through her work and during her time at the DSO, she can safely assume that her father had turned on her mother and ate her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, Sonya was left as a heavily supervised government orphan, moving from custody point to custody point for the sake of research and experimentation… as well as overall censorship for the governments mistakes with Raccoon City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her Present Story<\/em><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ever since she was young, Sonya has made it her life’s mission to prevent her childhood from happening to another helpless kiddo out there. That’s why shortly after her high school graduation, she went into training to become a special agent for the FBI. That was the initial goal, and after she graduated top of her class from the academy, she got right to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 20 years old, she began working as a specialized field communication agent. This means she’d often go on field missions with other standard agents for the sake of convenience. That is until her life took a second pivot in a completely separate direction shortly after her professional life had begun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a bioweapon run-in, Sonya was faced with having to serve backup to her field team. It was a hefty battle, one that needed heavy artillery. At some point during the fight, she loaded an acid round per usual… that is until the casing malfunctioned and the round exploded prematurely in her gun, resulting in the round burning through her piece and right into the skin of her left hand, forearm, and thigh. She was sent into recovery for a year and a half, spending all of her time stubbornly caring for the traumatized skin to ensure she’d still be able to use the damaged areas. To this day, it’s still considered a miracle that she managed to walk away with her limbs intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after being retired to strict desk duty, she was picked up by the DSO at the age of 24… mostly for the sake of fixing their declining mission success rates in the communication’s side of things. That’s where she remains today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
