Skills Showcase: Animation Showcase (“you decide”)

Script & Concept
My project was to make an animation of my choosing. I chose to make an animation of the opening scene of a fake game that me and my friend are working on. I started by creating the script for the animation, gaining some references, sketching the characters I wanted in the animation, and drawing the thumbnails of the storyboard to get a better feel of what I wanted to happen in the animation.
Storyboard & Animatic
Next, I started creating the storyboards. I made sure to keep the motion noticeable within the storyboards so I wasn’t confused later on. I then moved on to finding some audio for my animatic. I created the music for the animation, as well as Box Serial’s voice. all of the other sound effects came from Pixabay. I then put all of the audio and storyboard panels together into an animatic. a trouble I had with the animatic was that the time stamp covered the text boxes. I then sent the animatic to my C.R.E.W team for review, and moved on to create the actual animation itself.

Animation process
I moved on to create my final product by starting the rough animation. This process took me about 3 school days (9 hours) to do. After I finished my rough animation, I moved to cleaning it up by doing line art and color. After all of the animating was done, I took the animation into After Effects to make the textboxes and to add better quality audio. one challenge I faced in this process was at one point in the clean up stage, I had forgotten to save before I closed the program and lost a lot of work, but thankfully it was only a minor setback!
Current Version
The following video is the current version of my animation. I am very proud of how this turned out, especially since I did it in such a small timeframe. This project has boosted my confidence in my animation skills and makes me want to do more animations like this in the future!
