Plant Problems: BPA 2D Animation Team

Planning/Pre Production
Starting off the project, my group made some concepts based of the prompt, which was “Smart Solutions for a Healthier Planet: A GLOBE Community’s Journey with IoT”. We eventually landed on a story about a gardener who gets help from IoT and his friends on how to make his tomato plants healthy again. We then wrote the script, made the character designs, and made the storyboard and animatic.
Production
Next, my team and I started on the animation. My teammate Rebecca animated all of the hand-animated scenes, while I animated all of the other scenes using After Effects. We ran into a few issues at this part, mainly time management and running incredibly short on time. communication was also rather difficult on this stage due to our third teammate being in the A.M class of our school. Despite all of this, we finished animating and moved on to the last step in the process: editing and adding sound.

Post-Production
At this point in the project, we started wrapping things up with our animation. We added music, non-hand-animated segments, and our logo and end card in After Effects and sent it in to the competition!
Final Product
Overall, this project was rather stressful. We were really fighting against time, and the communication could’ve been a lot better. However, all of these hardships have taught me a valuable lesson in time managment and the importance of good communication. I hope to take what I learned from this project and use it to become an even better animator, teammate and worker!
