Julia’s Turnaround
My first completed character turnaround showcasing the skills I have!

Though I already had an idea of what I wanted to do I got a mood board made to put down some references for what I might want Julia to have. Examples being the posing references and the rat standing up so I could translate the structure to a more human-like one!

Before I drew the turnaround I made a sketch with her basic structure. I then colored in three different versions to get my ideas out. I then asked my peers which design they thought was best and ultimately they chose version 1, though I still changed up some of the coloring and patters, especially on her fur.

For Julia’s completed turnaround, I wanted to give her more room for expressions showcasing more of her personality. I built off of the sketch and mood board to flesh her out more in terms of both visuals and personality.

The last thing I did was make Julia into a GIF. All I did was take her turnaround and put it in a timeline where I then shortened the frames and put them in order. After that, I exported them and now I have a GIF of her turning around!
Song Animatic

The first thing I did was pick out my song, which was “It’s a Man” by Betty Hutton. Then, I took the lyrics of the song clip I chose and put them with the frames I wanted to use them for so I could make some rough sketches on what I want to have shown.

After that, I drew out the frames for the animatic. I decided to keep it simple because I wanted it to somewhat look like the 50’s style mixed with mine and I was on a HUGE time crunch since I lost the files to my original concept.

To add a bit more color, I added some simple backgrounds to help make the characters not look like they’re floating in the void.
The last thing I did was mash the audio and the frames in After Effects, exported it as an .mp4, and then uploaded it to Youtube where you can watch it right now!
