This was a group project introducing a super hero team and showing them working together to defeat a villain. I worked with three other team members to create this, from concept to final product. Elaine and I did the line art, Kat did the coloring, Apoorva did the backgrounds, and all team members helped out with sketches and character designs. This page is the process of making the character designs.
The first part of making any animation is deciding what characters to use. With the prompt of creating an animation about a superhero team, my group came up with the concept of heroes themed after different flavors. Below is the final designs of the characters in the style we’d animate in, created by my team member Elaine.

Sour

Although Elaine made the final designs, all four team members came up with design concepts for each character to start off with. The character I created was Sour Bolt, the sour-themed hero.
Sour Bolt was made with eye-melting neon colors and lemon accents to personify sour-ness. Their hair was meant to look like sour gummy worms, and their scythe has a little lemon drop on the end. They went through a couple iterations with how I wanted their hair to look, but for the most part, their design was realized from the start
Other teammates made their own concept art to share. Here’s the first designs for the antagonist Sludge Dog, and the two other heroes Spicy and Garlic Bear.

While considering the style that the animation would be in, team members found some different videos or pictures of examples of styles they liked. I took those styles and drew Sour Bolt in all of them, but we never ended up using any of the styles and went with something more realistic.
