Graphic Design Skills Showcase

I was given 30 hours to make a character turnaround based off of one of the prompts given to me. I decided to choose the one about a piece of toast.

I started out by making a mood board to help get all my ideas together and to help see my vision for the project.

I then sketched out my character, three expressions, and three perspective poses of him.

I was very inspired by the old 1930s rubber hose style cartoons when it came to my characters appearance.

After sketching I began drawing, coloring, and shading my character.

Afterwards I colored the background, gave him a name, and a little paragraph of his backstory.

Introducing Crumby!

Digital Illustration Skills Showcase

For this project I was given thirty hours to make six different tattoo designs for different people.

I started with some quick sketches to help me find what designs I liked best. After some fiddling around I ended up with these designs!

After lots of work I finally finished each design!!!

Crew member tattoo: For this tattoo design I chose Ari and I wanted it to be something silly like a small creature. I ended up coming up with a frog with big glasses because it reminded me of Ari since frogs are one of the types of animals that he likes. I went with a fine line style to it with a slightly complex look to it.

My tattoo: For this tattoo design I wanted to do something that has close meaning to me. I chose to do a small cluster of grapes because one of my favorite songs of all time is called “Grapes” by James Marriott and the main lyric of the song is “Did nobody ever tell you Grapes are better in September” and of course this has a lot of meaning to me because my name is September. I did a fine line style to keep it simple.

Family member tattoo: For this tattoo design I chose my brother and I wanted to make something DND related for him since he loves playing DND and has been since high school (he even still plays with some friends from high school to this day). I went with the dragon and 20 sided die combo to really get that DND vibe to it. For this I did the fine line style but made it have some complexity to the design to make it have more detail.

Faculty member: For this tattoo design I chose Dr. Floyd and wanted to make something simple and silly to help reflect his silly personality. I went with a small smiley face because he helps bring a smile to all our faces. For this I just did a fine line style to keep it super simple.

Student in another program: For this tattoo design I chose my friend Elizabeth who is in the cosmetology program. Doing hair is a passion of hers and I wanted to show that by making a little bowl of hair dye with the brush. I wanted some color to help make it pop and chose pink and purple to give it that makeover vibe. I went with a gradient style to help make it stick out.

Fellow DMD student: For this last design I chose Rebecca and I wanted to make something I knew she’d love. She looooooves horses to the moon and back and beyond and I knew I had to make a horse design just for her. I chose to do a simple one line style tattoo design to keep it minimalistic.
